Pastor's Article

I fixed a meal the other night.  No big deal.  I cook freqeuntly.  I had envisioned how I wanted it to look.  I imagined the taste of the various dishes.  Until almost serving time, I was psyched to believe it was going to be a great meal.

I thought I had prepared well for the making of the meal. I started the day before so that I would not have to be rushed in the development of the meal.  I thought I had plenty of color and tasty items in the dishes.

The food was too bland.  The pork chops were too dry.  The water did not cook out of one of the dishes.  The only good thing about the meal was the cupcakes and I had not made those.

Such is my spiritual life sometimes, also.  All of the preparations that I make come to nothing if I leave out an ingredient.  I can envision much for my Christian life, but if I leave out the Holy Spirit in my efforts, they come for nothing and it tastes bland.

I try to make a big deal about my relationship with God in all that I do.  I am competent.  I can read a recipe.  I know what to acquire if I am missing something.  But when I neglect the work of the God's Spirit in me, I will fail.  I will end up dry and tasteless.

You can have great plans, but that's all they they remain without God in the middle of the works.  Somewhere, you need the seasoning and strength of the Holy Spirit.  The plans remain static, without the life that God creates through Jesus.  You know what I am talking about if you have been at this Christian experience for very long.

My life is pretty dry without a genuine relationship with Christ.  Not much goes right when you choose your recipe over the one that God had planned.  The recipe from God contains all of the necessary ingredients.  Maybe that's the key, following the plan of God and you will have a succulent life full of life and joy.  Whose recipe for life are you following?
